I read a horoscope. The content was when you wanted to get a beautiful face you must put make up without seeing a mirror. Then I tried to apply it. After I finished, I looked at the mirror and then I was surprised because I missed my tooth. I read a horoscope again, I realized the exception stated in it that people couldn’t practice it at night because it could make you lost your tooth.

Got Injured

――――――― ♥ ―――――――

When I was a little, my parents built a new house in a housing estate. One afternoon, me, my father, my mother and my younger brother went to see our new home. When we got there, my father entered the house and went around to check what the builders were doing. A few moments later, we visited one of the neighbors who were very close to us. Once we got there, we were given a drink and some snacks. My parents talked to them while my brother and I blended in playing with their children, Diva who were at the same age as us. Then I borrowed Diva’s small two-wheeled bicycle. “Diva, may I borrow your bike?” I said. “Yes you can but for a moment, please.” replied Diva. “Okay, thank you.” I said again. Then I headed to a high place because their house was under a derivative road. While getting ready to glide I counted myself to three, then I was free to loose and when I jumped. I realized that it turned out that the bike I was riding had no brake. I remembered once at that time, I was wearing my favorite green nightgown which had no sleeve. At the end of the road there was a small gutter. I did not remember the time after I slid. I fainted at that time. When I opened my eyes, it turned out that I was in my old house and I was crying because my whole body felt very painful. Then I knew that I had a lot of wounds on my body: a tear in the right forehead, a wound in the right arm, and a wound in the chest. When my father and mother told me about the tear on my forehead, they told me that the wound must be sewn. I cried and I said that I didn’t want to be sewn out of fear. Finally, a tear wound on my forehead was only given medicine and covered in a bandage.

âś˝ Short Story

A Shocking Day

――――――― ♥ ―――――――

When I was in elementary school, after sport class, we took a break while changing clothes. Veta and I sat in front of dressing room.

“Veta, will you accompany me to the canteen to buy some snacks?”, I said.

“Of course, Gessa”, she said.

In the canteen, we bought snacks to eat in front of the dressing room. In one of the snacks I bought, there was a chili sauce.

“Can you help me to open the sauce?”, I asked.

“Of course”, she asked.

She exactly sat next to me and opened the sauce. When she opened it, the sauce hit my right eye. We were shocked. My eye was felt like burning. She panicked and looked scared. Then I screamed and cried while closing my eye. My mind frivolously thought that I would never be able to see again. My heart was beating fast like a rushing horse. I didn’t know where she went and I lost track of her.

“What’s wrong with you Gess?”, asked my other friends.

“My eye was affected by the chili sauce when I asked Veta for help”, I said.

(My friend took me to the bathroom.)

“Open your eye, we will splash your eye with water”, They said.

It was hard for me to open my eye. Slowly I opened my eye and in a bent position, standing in front of the wastafel with my head tilted, my eye began to be doused with water by one of my friends. Farah searched for Veta because she left without any words. Apparently she was sitting alone in the classroom.

“Veta, why you are in class instead of helping Gessa?”, Farah approached and asked.

Veta didn’t say anything. Farah was upset and came out of class and met my other friends while expressing her frustration to Veta. Farah accompanied me in the bathroom while my other girlfriends approached her to class. Because they were upset, they questioned Veta in a loud tone while pointing a finger at her.

“Why you don’t care about Gessa? Why did you leave when you make her eye hurt?” they asked.

Veta just kept silent, still not wanting to speak. They got more annoyed with her and spoke with a higher tone.

“Why, Vet? Please answer, don’t just be silent. You have to care about her because you are responsible for this!”, They said.

(Veta got scared and started dropping tears.)

“Why did you go, Vet?”, asked the others.

(Veta soon cried and looked down while crossing her arms on the table.)

Break was almost over. All of my friends went to class except me and Farah who accompanied me in the bathroom. A few minutes later, my teacher came to continue the study. Then she saw Veta crying.

“What happen Veta?”, asked my teacher.

One of my friends told her what happened between me and Veta. Then my teacher calmed her and she stopped crying. After that my teacher went to the bathroom to see me.

“Are you okay, Gessa?”, asked my teacher in a worried tone.

“My eye is still poignant ma’am”, I said.

(My teacher saw my eye and she saw that my eye was red.)

“You need to go to the medic room to rest there, Gessa. Farah, you must accompany her to go there”, asked my teacher.

“Yes ma’am. I will accompany her to go to medic room”, said Farah.

(My teacher returned to the class and resumed the lesson.)

The school bell rang, signaling that it was time to go home. Parents had gathered at the gate to pick up their children. There were also parents who enter the school and waited for their children in front of the class. When Veta left the classroom, her mother who was waiting for her in front of the class saw her.

“Why you look like someone who had been crying, what happen?”, said her mother.

“Because she hit Gessa’s eye when Veta open the sauce for her”, said my friend while bringing my bag and Farah.

And my teacher came to Veta, Veta’ mother and my friend. My teacher explained what happened between me and Veta.

“Where is Gessa now?”, said Veta’s mother.

“In the medic room”, said my teacher.

Then they hurried to the medic room. Coincidentally, we had not been picked up by our parents. Veta’s mother saw that my eye was red.

“Veta, you have to apologize to Gessa”, said Veta’s mother.

Veta was silent. I wonder what made her silent. Maybe she was so surprised and she was scared and she didn’t know how to deal with this kind of thing.

“Veta, you have to apologize to Gessa”, said Veta’s mother once again.

“I am sorry, Gess”, said Veta.

“It’s okay”, I said.

Then Veta’s mother wanted to take me to the eye doctor but I refused. Veta’s mother also apologized to me.

“Gessa, hopefully get well soon and please apologize for what happened today”, said Veta’s mother.

“Yes aunt”, I said.

Veta and Veta’s mother came home and a few minutes later my mother picked me up. My mother went straight to the medic room after being told by my friend that I was there. My mother ran toward me to the medic room.

“What is wrong with you, why your eye is red?”, asked my mom.

“No, mom, I just got hit by the sauce”, I said.

Then, my mother brought me home and the next day my eye was recovered.

Then he continued his study at Atma Jaya University in Yogyakarta by being accepted into the Informatics Engineering major. At first, they took him to a cafe, in the Malioboro area where there was ‘Lucifer cafe’. There he drank and got drunk together with the new friends who were introduced by his regional friends. When getting drunk, he cried happily in front of the crowd because he felt freedom. From that moment metting drunk became a habit. Every day he was drunk. He also tattooed the legs and arms of his body. He lived a very bad life until semester 4.

After that, he was introduced to marijuana and everything related to it. Those things greatly impacted his college activities. He came to campus with red eyes and in a drunken state. His body became thin. Obviously, his study was ruined. His GPA was terrible and he had got a GPA of 0. The average GPA from semesters 1-4 were 1, and only got 15 credits per semester.

When he felt tired with such lifestyle (semester 5), then he decided to move to the new boarding house. That was also one way to avoid friends who always came and forced him to get drunk and use marijuana. Then he lost his laptop in his new boarding house, in which there were tasks that he seldom did for late semester. That was when he did not have the spirit of study anymore. By semesters 5 and 6 he only registered but did not go to college. In this new boarding house, he pondered and began to change his life. He began to look for identity with a simple life and began to repent. The new boarding environment was also very supportive to him to change into a better person. He also stopped smoking.

Finally, in Semester 7 he decided to look for a new campus. He oved to Respati Yogyakarta University in 2017. His nickname was changed to Emil. For the initial payment he used necessary savings and looked for money. Since he moved to Respati, he changed dramatically. The GPA was always stable, 3 and above. He felt happy joining various organizations because he had never felt like them before. He became the chairman of UKM Melody Respati for the 2018/2019 period. In the 2019/2020 period, he was selected as the chairman of HIMAKOM, chairman of Gaudete Choir, and advisor to KMK. He liked being in Respati because he could have many friends, while in Atma Jaya he had no friends. He did not see the size of the campus, because Respati had successfully made him felt more comfortable and he felt that he could develop his abilities here. He also began to diligently go to church that used to be only once in a month and he was also active in various activities in the church. He wanted to prove that he would be to be a good and useful person for many people. He determined to study properly and planned to graduate on time. He wanted to show that he was able and would graduate extraordinarily with the experience he gained.

MEMOIR

-Enduring Love-

The story began at school. At that time I met a man who was very handsome and had a kind heart. That first glance he made me felt I was experiencing a miracle called “Love”. At that moment I asked in my heart “What happened? Why did my heart flare up when I saw him?” There was like something crossed my heart and I asked again “Universe!! is this just a dream ? or is it a sense of awe and I shouldn’t have?”. God, I felt in love.  That love continued to grow over time. I was very amazed because the felt I had was the same as what he felt. During our school we established this relationship by continuing to think, doing positively and also focusing on our study. Love still continued to flow like the taste of a cup of coffee, sometimes it was sweet but also bitter, that was the love story that happened between us but we still thought clearly and continued to keep the commitments that we made together. All the processes we went through during our first school, now it was time to focus on our goals going forward. I decided to continue my studies and he was looking for a decent job. Although our distance and time were very different but not for the quality of our hearts. Love that was present during school of course did not disappear. Many people said love was abstract, sometimes it could be owned but sometimes it couldn’t be owned. I still believed that I deserved to love him, with all the risk as well, also with him. Until finally the Universe and times would answer the journey of the love affair.

POEM

-I Follow my Dreams-

I get laughed at,

I get ignored,

I often feel trapped,

and I keep my thoughts stored.

People can be cruel and very mean,

but no matter what, I follow my dreams.

Life has waves;

I know that.

But I stand brave

and just take the crap.

I may feel exhausted and totally creamed,

but no matter what, I follow my dreams.

I know what I want,

and I won’t stop trying.

Quitting? I can’t,

for now I’m flying.

It’s impossible it seems,

but no matter what,

I follow my dreams…

SHORT STORY

-It can be good but also can be not good-

One day in an apartment located in the east of Broadway city, there lived two female friends who shared an apartment room. They had been friends since the age of 7 years, since they went to school until recently they also studied at the same university. They were fairly compact, they always ate together, learned, and even whatever activities were done together, it was hard to see them go or walk alone. The most memorable thing was that their shopping, was unique because every clothing they had always in the same color and shape, it made difficult for everyone on campus to distinguish the two. What could be distinguished was only from their names and their physique. One with straight hair and had brown color named Rexa and another who had curly hair that was slightly brownish-black was Shena.

In the campus on Friday, Rexa and Shena planned to visit a public library in the middle of the city on the following day. They planned to spend their time off by working on a quiz given by several lecturers to collect on Monday later. After discussing a joint plan, they decided to spend the rest of Friday going to the newly opened cafe right in front of their campus. In the café the food was fairly cheap and the menu provided was also varied, also what made it interesting was the provision of simple jazz concerts that could make those who came there felt comfortable.

After 1 hour had passed these two friends decided to go home. Their walked and shared stories until their passed through an alley that was almost close to their apartment. While walking and laughing their eyes were fixed on a beautiful necklace on the ground. Both of them wanted to have it, and without thinking they took and fought for it. There in lied the desires of hearts that wanted to have the necklace without thinking, they pulled each other over the necklace. Suddenly, it broke off in the middle. One of them fell in the mud and another one in a drain.

A passerby passed in the area while laughing at the action of the two girls and he told them, “What are you fighting for? Just a necklace? Why should anyone be hurt? Aren’t you friends?” For a moment they were in silent and felt embarrassed. He also said, “If you fight for something positive then do it, but if you fight for something stupid you need to stop it. Think wisely! Both of you are friends.” Immediately they felt guilty by the actions. Shena stood up and threw away the necklace and said “I am sorry, only because necklace that didn’t have value I hurt you”. They hugged each other and while weeping, Rexa said “this kind of stupid thing I do not do anymore. I do not want to hurt my friend just for a necklace. What is the meaning of a necklace? If it is broken it be used and not worth anything, but to me you mean more”.

After that, they both laughed again to see each other’s faces and did not forget to thank the person they did not know before. From him, they realized that sometimes for things that were worth nothing we could just sacrifice something valuable in our lives, but sometimes the situation would realize the importance of something that was far more important, like friendship.

IMAGINATION WRITING

-The First day of School, a Love Note, and a Recipe with Significant Mistake-

This was reality that I had never expected, starting from my first day of entering school after the holidays. Well, in my class I had a friend who had a handsome face, his name was Leon. I remembered at 8 o’clock in the morning I was in class, and I saw a note and it seemed like a love note. I thought that the note was shown to me because I was the first student present in the class at the time. I was interested to open it and tried to read the note. Apparently the note contained a statement of significant mistakes and when I read it to the end I found out the note was from Sarah. Unexpectedly! Sarah and Leo had a secret relationship, and it seemed I was the first person who knew the relationship and also what the contents of the note was about.

BIOGRAPHY

Light from the east it seems that the name is suitable with the characteristics of someone who was born on March 12,1985 in Sorong-Papua and has a full name John Maryano Bieth. He was the last of six siblings of the couple, Mr. Bieth and Mrs. Randongkir.

John who was often called Ojon, studied at the elementary school of the Catholic Education Foundation (YPK-graduated in 1994) finished his first education school at the same Foundation (YPK-graduated in 2000), and finished high school (SMA Negeri 1 – graduated in 2003). Ojon took his final education by completing a law program (bachelor’s degree and graduated in 2013).

In addition to taking education on law ojon had several jobs that were very supportive. He was once a staff member of the Tambrauw-Papua Regency Bawaslu, and then another work that he had was as a waiter at Eco Restaurant and Karaoke. During his time as a waiter at Eco Restaurant and Karaoke, Ojon continued to work to be able to get a better job for himself and his family. The process still continued Ojon still struggled and prayed all the time and did not forget to continue to be active in church youth activities. As he results Ojon carried out something extraordinary, he got a job as a Staff of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Businesses in data analysis section in the capital city of Jakarta. Although the distance and time between Papua and Jakarta were different but it did not reduce his enthusiasm for work and he never forget give thanks to God for all his blessings.

I was so enthusiastic to see him because before getting a job in Jakarta he was a church activist who always worked hard and never forgot to get involved in the worship routine. I was so happy to know him as  always shared happiness with people he met.  Everytime we worshiped in or outside the church he was always there and took part in it. Not only that, in the family environment Ojon was also known to be very friendly and often shared experiences about his work and sometimes the problems that he had faced. He never forgot to give all his affection to his brothers and sisters, for him family was the most important also the driving factor to be a person that was accepted by many people.

During his life in Sorong-Papua so many things that had already happened were fun and also lessons that we could learn such as his kindness that deserved appreciation. Since moving to Jakarta, he could see sadness on the faces of his friends and family, but the job required him to go. Many challenges he faced while in living Jakarta ranging from adjusting the new environment to work that was so draining energy and mind. Living in Jakarta was not as easy as it seemed and was imagined, so for that he remained who continued to be humble and keep praying.

There were people who were quite familiar with Ojon personally, very close, and one of them was Stevany. Ojon and Stevany were apparently good friends. They came from the same city in Sorong-Papua. In Jakarta they participated in many church activities that they attended and didn’t even have the responsibility to be volunteers for certain activities. The kindness that Ojon had shown was not much different from what he did in the place he came from, that what made the environment where he lived at that time received him well. A lot of goodness that he had shown regardless of differences and religions.

Time continue to run without stopping, the life process that ojon had lived kept continuing. He faced a process in which he was cornered with various problems but he could pass all with gratitude. A day that never crossed in his mind was knowing that he suffered a fairly severe pain, when that complication of the heart became is life partner. Aware of his disease, he never showed sorrow to others including his own family. He still continued to struggle to his life like other normal people and still actively worked and carried out his activities in the church. Everyone knew that Ojon was in good condition to have fairly good work and even continued to present himself as a loyal listener and advisor to his friends. When the disease was getting worse day by day Ojon kept hiding it from his family and friends. To the point where he could not do anything even to work actively as before was not fully done. At that time, some of his close friends finally found out about his heart disease.

They were sad to know about the disaster that happened to Ojon. And finally they decided to help Ojon to fight the disease. Good foods, drink and medicines became the choice for Ojon to survive. Doctors also continued to provide the best care for him. At the time where some of his closest friends ventured to notify their families of the disease that Ojon suffered. The family was so sad and seemed to feel angry because Ojon had never told them from the very beginning before he was diagnosed heart complications. Some families followed Ojon to Jakarta, and when they saw him lying weak and helpless they were sad. Meanwhile the doctor continued to show good quality of his work. At the time the choice of surgery became the best decision and Ojon’s family agreed with that. All the friends in the place where he worked, the friends in the church and his good friends in Sorong-Papua, and even the whole family always prayed for the best for ojon. They were sure that Ojon would recover and become a cheerful person again. In October where the month that had ever been thought before, surgery was carried out. Cheerful atmosphere that was once portrayed on the faces of his friends and family also turned into fear and anxiety. Ojon’s goodness, sincere smile, friendliness with others and kindness with any social environment made him loved and always prayed for the best, so that he struggled with his disease. However, God had his own way to make Ojon smiled again after the surgery was complete.

On October 23, 2019 at the Cikini-Jakarta Hospital, Ojon breathed his last. The doctors could not resist God’s decision. It was the best they had done but the way of God was far better than the way of humans. Hearing the sad news all his family was very sad to feel like losing precious gold, it seemed broken hearts of all Ojon’s close friends. We did not believe that someone who had humility had been taken by God. The family shouldn’t do anything but they just let go of the best person who had a positive influence on their lives, and also to many people who had become part of Ojon’s daily life. Ojon’s figure who had been called home by God, when it was returned to Sorong-Papua where he was born and raised. Sadness and broken heart were in all those who had known Ojon.

In the arrival of Ojon’s corpse in the funeral home, all families and also close friends welcomed with tears. Sadness was unbearable. We could only see the darkness that once shined in the light of the lives of many people. The body lying rigidly left only good memories and also a message to everyone who knew him. The sacrifice during Ojon’s life in carrying out his duties as a very active church youth would always be remembered. His work that had been carried out with full responsibility and deserved appreciation.

Rest in peace John Maryano Bieth. You were brightest that I had met during your life. I had also learned many valuable lessons from you. All your services would be remembered by all those who loved you. Your name had millions of meanings stored in the hearts of many people. Even if we lose your light, your good deeds would keep you brightness for everyone. Rest with all your kindness, and we always love you.

TESTIMONIES

Well, I would tell you something. This is the second time I’ve made my own writing, by the way. I felt very happy because some of my works are inspired by my own personal experiences and also the stories of people around me. My first stories had been included in a magazine that you can find in the Respati Yogyakarta University Library. Initially I thought this would be difficult because, I am not yet perfect in composing some of the words and making my writing acceptable to others. But yess!! with the helps from my lecturer Tri Septa Nurhantoro, S.S., M.Hum. I was be able to complete all of my writings. I hope that from the stories that I had written would help you recognize who I am, I hope so. You should try to start writing stories someday, because in that way you will be able to know the extent to which you can arrange your own writings and also your creativity. Good luck!

Desy Astuti

Identical twins, a party invitation, and locked closet.

My friend just gave identical twins birth. She was so happy, and to express her happiness and gratitude she held a party. Of course she invited me too. Unfortunately, on that party I got a bad stomach ache and it made me go back and forth to the toilet. I did not know how could I be locked in that toilet. I really scared, I screamed and tried many ways to go out of that.  It useless. I stuck in the toilet for two hours until my friend finally come and helped me. The next day she told me that the toilet I used yesterday had not been used for a long time and she also wondered how I could find that toilet, which was located at her backyard.

The Dilemma-Ben

In 2011, Ben already finished taking his bachelor degree in Meulborne, Australia. He decided to go back to his country and starting to build his career by working in an elementary school as a teacher. Marry is Ben’s mother. She was such a lovely and caring person. She really loved her one and only son, especially since her husband passed away. Actually Marry hoped that Ben would continue his study owing that they were good in financial, but it seemed like Ben already made his own decision to became a teacher. It made her a bit dissappointed.

Day after day Marry watch her son. She became talkless to him. Although she could see now that her son was considering to be a headmaster in the school but it won’t be enough to change her behavior. She became more unhappy knowing that Ben wouldn’t continue his study was because of his girlfriend, Anne. Anne was a woman who grew in the same countryside. Marry knew more about Anne than her son. He surely wouldn’t leave Anne and undergo distance relationship. Marry didn’t allowed their relationship. For Marry, Anne was such an uneducated person.

A year went, November arrived and had more rainy days. The sky looked grey often. The growing-plants look more green in roadside park. Marry knew that Ben often met Anne. She became angry and jealous.

One cloudy evening, Ben met Anne in a cafetaria. They sat there together and talked many things happily. Ben returned to his house full of joy, his eyes were bright ad his heart full of happpiness. Marry already prepared the dinner. Ben sat down in front of his mother as usual. At first, he didn’t care of her silence.

Then he started speak. “Lately, we have eaten our meals in silence, mom. What’s wrong?”. “Nothing.” Ben’s mother replied, “But you know my reason exactly”. “The reason for your upset and silence is Anne. I know that,” Ben answered.

“And I know that you meet her and you are wasting your time, your life, because of her. If it wasn’t for her maybe you do not give up on your dream, you would be study in Aussie by now.”

“it is not like that mom,” Ben replied. “ I am not giving up on my dreams, I am just take another way to achieve it. And you know, Anne is kind and smart woman though she doesn’t have her degree. She can help me with my work.”

“She will be no help to you.” Mary answered. “She is lazy, unhappy woman. She has no interest in helping people. She thinks too much about herself. I know her more than you, Ben. You have no idea about her.”

“I don’t agree, mom.” Ben answered. “Anne could look after the students in my school, mom. I could see it in school and a with a wife like her I can..”

“A wife? A wife you said? Then you mean to marry her? O Ben, your love has blinded you! Anne is not a good woman. I must save you from this foolishness.”

Ben stood up angrily but with a still calm voice he said “I cannot stay here when you speak about Anne”. In a few minutes, Ben had left the house. When he returned, several hours later, his mother already gone to bed. The next day Ben tried to speak to his mother, but she refused to answer. He felt blue. He came home early, then put on his coat and left house.

Ben meant to meet Anne on a cafetaria’s rooftop that night. He wait for a few minute until Anne’s light footstep heard. In a moment she was in arms. Ben about into burst.

“Anne”

“Ben, dear,” she replied. Almost four months had passed and now the two were deeply love. Anne sighned.

“Ah, Ben, we shall not always like this!” “Why do you say that?” Ben cried, holding Anne in his arms. “Because I know more about love than you do, Ben,” “Anne answered sadly. “I love another man once, and now I love you.”

“Don’t speak like that Anne”

“Well, your mother will soon find out about our meetings. Then she will turn you against me.” “My mother knows already,” said Ben sadly. “And she hates me, I supposed?”. “Ben do not answer. The atmosphere became quiet.

“Hug me once more then!” Anne cried, “And leave me forever!”

“I will never leave you,” Ben answered. “I came here tonight to ask you to be my wife. Will you marry me, Anne? Give me an answer.”

“Let me think about it,” said Anne softly. “Tell me about living in Meulborne, Ben. I love about those busy streets, those beautiful..”

“Don’t mind Meulborne!” Ben answered with a bit hard tone voice. “Will you marry me, Anne?”

“If you take me there, and get a job there, we will marry.” Anne replied. “You really know that we can’t live our love-life here, right?” Anne exclaimed. “But I can’t. I had my own decision I want to work here. This is what I want, to be with my mother and live our story happily Anne”

“That plan will never come true, I am sure,” Anne said with a smile. “So I promise to be yours for ever and ever. But whether you will make me a good wife I can’t say. I do love you, Ben. To be your wife and to live in Meulborne is a pleasure for me.”

After the deep talk, the lovers parted, they walked back to their own house. Anne promised him to speak to her parent about their decision to marry.

As he walked away from Anne, Ben’s thinking too much, and his thoughts grow sadder. Did Anne really love him? Or was that Meulborne the only reason she loves him? Ben also began to see that his love for Anne was turning him away from his mother.

Ben really wanted keep and feel craved for Anne’s love, but he wanted the love his loveable mother too. He also planned to become a valuable and and a good educator in his countryside. He now realised that he could not have these three desires together. He reach home, seeing his mother sleep, made him felt bit guilty he then kissed her on forehead. He did not able to make a decision in this case. Guilty, worry, and unhappy attacked him.

Discovering Myself as a Master of None

I imagine what if about three years ago I gave my best on doing what I really do nowadays. I meant I took the English course seriously, without always skipping the classes. I majored in English Literature Department at Respati Yogyakarta University. Subjects must be easier right now if I seriously learned English several years ago.

I entered senior high school faced many choices. My mommy wanted me able to made my own decisions, especially about education. Maybe one of the crucial decision was about whether I should take social or science major in senior high school. Yeah I thought it must be such an important thing for my mommy, but the small-me at that time was like what the heck  I am gonna enjoy whatever the major. I really did not care about it at all.

I end up taking social major in my senior high school, I thought it would be something new for me, since in previous school I already learned and used to interested in science, which made me able to join Science National Olympic. I thought social must be fun, mainly learned about people and their behavior. One thing really impressed me at senior high school was even tough I majored in social, but still I could participated in some biggest events in science. I was not the only School Students Organization (OSIS) member who usually and always take part in every event at school. I joined the organization like KIR club (Kelompok Ilmiah Remaja) where there was so much priceless and precious knowledge we could gain and rarely found in the classroom. Lucky-me, I got chance to join OSN again.

In other opportunity, I also could join a lot of activities in Art hold at school. I joined it and did a lot of interesting activities there. Of course at that time, beside already having that hectic schedule at school, my mommy also other skills which I did not get from school. Yeah I decided to take English course, which at that time my mommy gave me choice whether it English or Computer course.

I was not awared that having lot of activities at the same time failed me. I couldn’t manage my time well. In addition, my habit towards my schedule was like whenenver I lack spirit or got bored for a while I left it and tried other. It was like I just did other things to avoid getting bored. Also everytime I joined a competition, I couldn’t give my best. I couldn’t get any achievement owing of that bad habit. Until this impact also led me hard to make decision what major I should take in college.

Now, I am majoring in English Literature. I think this is going to be easy if the last three years I focused myself on learning one thing that relatable with the major I would take. I should focus myself on learning English for instance. Remembering skipping the course anytime, regretted. I couldn’t focus myself on doing that really become my passion for my study.

I didn’t aware, taking many activities made me disabled to focus on one thing. Now I have to study hard and enrich my experience. I learned that doing a thing inconsistently can’t lead me get a good result. Discipline is the key. Whatever you want to do and desire to get a good result from it, always be consistent, always be discipline on it regularly, and if you get bored, do not stop, just take a rest. Take time and do it later. But one more important thing we should notice is find your passion first. Then be discipline on it. Avoid multitasking if you feel hard to concentrate. Yeah remembering the things I have experienced made me think that here I am as a Master of None.

Theater!

Who says the world is a shelter?

Who says the world is a place of happiness?

Who says the world is a full of beauty?

Who suppose the world like venom of snake!

What to be proud of?

What to be expected?

What to look for?

And what is gained?

Luxury always comes without stopping

It is like the shining of sun

Lightning

Then, dim again

Wake up!

This is only a temporary stopover

Mortal

Then, disappear

 Short story

The reciprocated kindness

“Dear! Today my merchandises are not sold out and just sold very little, only this I can give to you”. Heri said to her wife while giving the money for daily needs. “What? Just this you can get? Do you think this is enough for us? Not dear, this inadequate! Please, work harder! If it happens again in the future I can`t live with you anymore”. Heri`s wife said. “I am sorry dear. Please, forgive me! I promise to work harder tomorrow”. Heri said to his wife.

The next day, Heri went to work  bringing all the merchandises to the market. In the middle of way, he met an old woman that looked confusing. He tried to approach her. “What happened to you?” Heri asked to her. “I want to go back to my home but I don`t have money, may I ask for your money? Please, help me”.  The old woman asked for heri`s money. “I am sorry. I only have a little money. For eating is also difficult, but it is okay,  I believe that our sustenance already set by God.  â€śHeri said to her while giving the money. “Thank you very much son, I will never forget your kindness. May you have a happy life forever and your God will give easy sustenance for you”. The old woman prayed for him. “Amiin”. Heri said. “Let me accompany you to the bus station”. Heri said while accompanying her. When they arrived at bus station, the old woman said thankful to heri. Heri just smile while facing up her. After the bus came, the Old woman entered it and the bus left that place. Heri hurried up to the market to sell the merchandises.

When he arrived there, he started to sell. Unfortunately, he felt sad because he waited so long but no customer came to him. All the merchandises were intact. He confused, what he would say to her wife. “How is this God? Why is no merchandize sold today? What will I say to my wife?” Heri said in his heart. After that, he decided to go back home because the time was already 05.00 p.m. When he arrived at home, he looked for her wife. “Where is your mom, son? Why she is not at home this time?”. Heri asked her son. “I don`t know dad, when I came back home until now I haven`t seen mam”. Heri`s son said. “Are you sure? Have you eaten before?”. Heri asked him. His son only shook his head. “let`s go to kitchen, I will cook some food for you”. When Heri was cooking at the kitchen, his wife came. “Where are you from? Why do you go back home overnight? Why you didn`t cook for us before you went  utside?”. Heri asked her. “Why did you ask me like that? Have you ever taken me outside like most of my friend`s husband did? If you want me to cook where is the money? I will ask you now, how much money do you get today?”. Heri`s wife answered angrily. “I am sorry. No merchandize is sold today”.  Heri answered.  “Hallo stupid man! Poor man! What can you do? A partner that is not reliable!”. She said while leaving them. Heri`s son cried while leaving Heri in the kitchen. At that time, heri felt really broken heart knowing his wife talking like that to him. He cried in the middle of night while pray to God to strengthen him facing up her wife.

The next day at a morning, Heri couldn`t wake up from his bed. He felt sick. He called his wife to help him go to toilet. Unfortunately, his wife didn`t want to. “Please help me! I want to go to toilet”. Heri said. “Go by yourself! Do you have feet? Use your feet! I will never help you, I want go to my friend`s party. You only can validate me!”. Heri`s wife told like that while leaving him alone in his room. Heri attempted himself sucked on the floor went to toilet. Unfortunately, heri fell in the toilet until he passed out. No one realized it. After an hour, his son entered the room and shocked because his father already passed out. He was panic, and he looked for his mother but she was not at home. He straight away went to his neighbor for asking for a help. After that, the neighbors came and brought heri to the hospital.

In the hospital, when the neighbors and Heri`s son were waiting for heri, her wife came. “What is this? Why your father could be in this hospital? We don`t have money to pay all the cost”. Heri`s wife said to his son. “I don`t know mom, suddenly when I entered the room I saw him already passed out on the floor. I straight away asked our neighbors to help me”. Heri`s son answered. “Your father only can bothersome me!”. Heri`s wife said that while leaving thee hospital. Two days Heri was in the hospital, finally doctor said if he was allowed to go back to home. Finally, Heri went back to home with his son who had accompanied him two days in the hospital. Talking about a hospital cost, actually all Heri`s  neighbors helped him to pay all the cost, because they felt pity with him. The neighbors knew that heri was a kind person, so they willingly helped him.  According to heri, this was a help from God. He believed that all our kindness to people would be back again to us.

When they arrived at home, heri was suddenly shocked because he saw his wife together with another man at home. Heri was really angry, but he couldn`t do anything because he still felt sick. “Enter to your room please, son”. Heri told to his son. His wife and a man were also shocked and wondered why he could go back earlier from hospital. “What are you doing here?”. Heri asked while holding his chest in pain. Unfortunately, his wife ordered the man to leave the house. After he left the house and Heri`s  wife scolded him back. “Why do you back home? I think you will stay forever in the hospital. If you are here, you can only bother me”. His wife said while angry and left the home. “Oh God, what`s wrong with me? Why my wife treated me like that? Please God. Give her awareness to know of her mistakes”. Heri said that while crying.

Actually, two days had passed after she left the house and didn`t come back. Heri felt fidgety why his wife didn`t come back until now. He looked for his wife anywhere he knew. He went to his wife friend`s house to look for her, but he found nothing. Unfortunately, at the middle of way when he went back home, there were many people there. He felt curious and tried to approach it. Finally, he was shocked when looked his wife laid down with bloodstained. Heri and the people there tried to bring her to the hospital. When they arrived at the hospital, she was immediately handled by doctor. “Oh God, help me please! Give me a power to face this disaster, save my wife please. I hope from this disaster she became a better person”. Heri said while praying to God.  5 hours had passed as he waited for his wife in the hospital. Suddenly, the doctor was out off the room and looked for the family of the patient. “Where`s the family of Mrs. Suryani?” the doctor asked. “I am her husband, doctor”. Heri answered. “Ok Mr, Let me tell you about your wife`s condition. Now, your wife is in a critical state and we need two bags of AB blood, find please it immediately. If you cannot find it I cannot help your wife”.

“Actually, what is your blood type”? the doctor asked heri. “My blood`s type is O doctor. Actually, I will try hard to get the blood and you must promise me to will help my wife”. Heri told to the doctor. “God willing Mr, all our life is already set by God. We are here only try to do our best by the permission of Allah.” The doctor answered. “Ok doctor, I will try it and thank you for your helping”. Heri said. “Actually, I will simplify your way to get the blood. In room 231, there is an old woman that always donates her blood for the patient who needs it. She is a rich people, but she is a very kind person. Maybe, you can try it.” The doctor said to Heri. “Thank you very much doctor, I will try it now.” Heri ran to that room.

“Excuse me.” Heri said while entering the room. Finally, heri was shocked knowing the old woman that was told by the doctor was the one he had helped before. “What can I do for you, son”? The old woman said while smiling to heri. “I am sorry before, I don`t know if you are here. My wife is in a critical state, and she needs two bags of blood and I don`t know what will I do now remembering that you are the old woman that I had helped before, and I cannot bear if you can help me.” Heri said while crying. “I will help you, son. I will reply all your kindness to me, and your wife should be healthy as before in order to make your family happy.” The old woman said while smiling. Heri was really shocked, he never though if he would be in this condition. Heri cried while praying.

After that, he went back to the doctor bringing the blood. “Doctor, I got the blood and I hope you can heal my wife now.” Heri said. “Ok mr, I will do it now. Please pray so that your wife can be well.” Doctor said. 3 hours had passed as the doctor in the room handled heri`s wife, but there was no sign from the room. Heri was really panic and afraid if there was something undesirable.

In short, the doctor came out off the room. “Congratulation, your wife is saved”. The doctor said while smiling. “Are you sure? May I see her?”. Heri said. “I am sure, please see her”. The doctor answered. Heri rushed to the room to see his wife. Who knew, at that time heri`s wife asked him, why she can hold on until now? Who helped her? In short, heri told all to her wife about the old woman that helped him. She was the old woman that ever asked heri’s money so that he didn`t bring money home, and she was the one that donated her bloods to his wife. Heri tried to convince her wife that all our kindness to other people would go back to us. Suddenly, heri’s s wife cried and felt guilty to his husband that always tried to make her happy but she never assumed it. She awarded if she had many mistakes to his husband, she felt inappropriate to live because of her mistakes. Heri tried to strength her if she could be better and erase all her mistakes, God will achieve her kindness.

After that, his wife promises to heri and herself to be a better person. She was really lucky to have a husband like heri. They started a new life with his son and tried to make their own happiness. Finally, their family live happily ever after and they always did a kindness. She believed if they gave  kindness to other people, it means they gave kindness to them selves.

Memoir

The first time loosing all my luggages when come back to Java

When I was in Islamic junior high school, I went back to my village for holiday. After two months, I came back again to Java Island to continue my study.  I usually went back by myself, but at that time my father accompanied me. The trips usually needed three days because we took bus.  Actually I never felt this accident before. I called it such an accident for me. My father and I put all our luggagein the bus luggage room, while we brought nothing inside the bus. Actually we really believed that all our luggages would be safe in their place. At day 1 we arrived in Palembang, the bus stopped and we had a break. All the passengers in the bus were out from the bus. They prayed, ate, took a bath and had a rest. After thirty minutes, we continued our trip. At day 2 we arrived in Lampung, actually our activities were the same liked the first we stopped. We continued again the trip, six hours from the place that we had a break in Lampung, we arrived in Bakauheni harbor to cross the sea that separated Sumatera Island and Java Island. After three hours, we went out from the ship to continue our trip. Actually we arrived in Merak harbor in Java Island. I still remember that we arrived there at 1 p.m. After going out from the ship, we entered again to our bus to continue the trip. Actually at 12 a. m the bus already reached java “Cilacap” it was our destination. However, we were really shocked knowing that our luggage were lost. I was really stressed at that time! “How is this come dad? My clothes, books, foods, all are lost. I don`t have anything anymore dad! What should I do now? How can I say to my teacher that I can`t enter class because I don`t have books and clothes”? My father said “calm down dear! Everything will be ok, trust me!” “How is this sir”? My father tried to talk with the driver. They said,” why? What should we do sir? We don`t know anything that happened to you. I am just a driver. We still have many to do. The passengers are waiting us. Then, we can`t take responsibility sir. Please feel free to contact our office”! After that the bus left us.

My father was really angry to them that treated us like that. None of them was responsible for that. However, we tried to be patience. I cried along the way. We stopped at a bus counter and took a bath. After that, my father tried to sooth me. He said, “let us buy the new uniform, shoes, and books before coming back to your boarding school using this potluck money first. Be calm dear! God will change them later! After that we went to market to buy my necessities. However, in the market all the seller asked us “sorry dear, where is your school? What will you buy? What grade are you now?” I answered them, “I am in the 2nd grade at Islamic junior high school at Darul Qurro”. They were shocked, “what? You are 2nd grade? Why do you just buy the now dear? Instead of you have already studied for a year? All a seller in the market looked at me. My father answered, “we got an accident in our trip, all my daughter`s luggage was lost. We don`t know how it can happen to us”. They said, “Oh my God! Be patient, dear, God will change them later. Actually, that was the disaster from God to test your patience in your study. Keep strong dear! We all pray for the best solution for you.

In short, all my necessities like uniforms, shoes, books, pens, and so on, were in discount until 70%. How lucky I was at that moment. Meeting people who really cared of me even though we didn`t know before. I believed and learned one thing from that accident.  My God will change anything in the appropriate time. It also taught me to be more careful, and also never be careless.

Bioghraphy

A. Khawarizmi Siregar

Aidhil Khawarizmi Siregar or often be called “Regar” is a magister student at Gadjah Mada University studying in Islamic Economic Department.  He was born in Tanjung Medan, North Sumatera on January 13th, 1994. He was originally batak tribe, and also his parents. His father is a farmer, and his mother is a tailor. He has three little sisters and he is the eldest child in his famiy. Talking about his family, he lives in full of warmth family. His father is a hard worker person. When he was a child, he lived in common family. So that, from this condition he tried to be a successful  person without bothering his parents. He studied hard from child until now. Finally, he can make his parents proud of him with his achievements. As we knew, batak tribe is one of the tribes in our country that is famous with their rudeness in language because of their accents, but here we must consider that batak tribe is also hard in his life. They always embed  hard work and never give up to reach success in their life. It  also happened in regar. He was a  very ambitious person that I knew, and he never gave up to reach something that he wants.

Basically, he started his education in islamic constitution. The first, he studied in state islamic school  tanjung medan. So, he continued his study in Irsyadul Islamiyah islamic junior high school tanjung medan. After that, he studied in Ar-Raudlatul Hasanah islamic senior high school Medan. After graduating from islamic senior high school, he subserved in islamic boarding school Nurul Iklas, Padang for a year. He also got a scholarship in islamic senior high school, the scholarship was only intended for fourteen students from three thousands students with the best score, and he was one of them. So amazing! When he was in university, he was an active student in and outside university too. Why I said like this? Because I saw his achievements.

  1. He was a chairman of HIMALABUSEL Yogyakarta 2016-2018 and 2018-2019, it counted three years in two periods. For further information, HIMALABUSEL is one of student districts associations in Yogyakarta from Labuhanbatu Selatan, Medan.
  2. He was a chairman of the youth organization Ngelo & KKN UIN 2017.
  3. He was a secretary of research development PMII commissioner UIN 2018.
  4. He was a minister of finance of student executive board UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA 2018.
  5. He got a best scholarship in Ar raudlatul Hasanah islamic boarding school 2010.
  6. He got 3rd place in English speech contest in level of student & student of college in North Sumatera Province
  7. He got 3rd place in English speech contest in level senior high school in North Sumatera Province
  8. He got 1st winner in quiz of history of islam in North Sumatera province
  9. He was a PMII Korp Brilliant`s chairman in lifetime.

He told me, “Actually, this position really helped me to learn to be well organized”. The most important thing was Regar`s friends agreed to vote him to be the chairman in this position for lifetime.

Actually, I only wrote the biggest achievements he had got. There were still many achievements that he had got when he was in islamic senior high school, but I didn`t write them. There was one of achievements that he got and I thought that was really inspired me. He was a writer, and his book was sold in gramedia and toga mas. Not only that, his book was also through the level of national. I am really proud of him. The title of his book is “Sepilin kisah dari kami untuk semesta” with a help from Prof. Musa Asy `arie the Rector of UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA.

Regar has a good personality, he never give  up in his life. He has a strong determination to reach what he want and always keep continuing his life`s motto. “Bii Qodri Maa Ta`tanii Tanaalu Maa Tatamanna” which means “Your big efforts will return as big as your success”  then, from this motto he tries so hard in anything  in his life.

Actually, that`s why I choosed him to become a person that I wrote the biography for my project, because of him I also learn how to be more ambitious person to reach all that I want in my life.

He told me, “I am a person that is hard inside, but soft outside”. It means that he always imposes himself to do anything, because he knew if he pamperes  himself he will not be like what he is now. In other side, when in organization he became a leader,  he also applied this things. Before he commanding his member to do something he did it first.  That the ost  important thing is that I should be like that.

He also told me that, “We can`t choose from what family we are from, what religions we are with and what tribes we are from, but we can determine and create how our future will be. Actually, I am not from a rich family, so that I really considered my parents cannot give me more facilities for my education, and from that I tried to study hard to get scholarship to continue my study without bothering my parents. My parents don`t have treasure, their treasures are their children”. It was the deepest expression of him, I thought. He planned his life to be more useful andall the possibility had been already prepared by him, because he believed that God will determine the way we success. Good luck!
